Former NFL Player to Join Y Staff in Doylestown
Brett Brackett, former tight end for the Tennessee Titans and 2010 ‘Penn State Football Most Outstanding Player’ award winner will be joining the staff at the Doylestown branch of Central Bucks Family YMCA as an athletic development trainer.
Beginning in February, Brackett will be on staff as an athletic trainer teaching private and small group training classes with an emphasis on sports specific goals for teens and adults. He will also conduct workshops for teen athletes and be available for off-site group sessions with local teams and groups.
“This is a hole we’ve been looking to fill for a long time,” said Lisa Schwartzer, director of fitness at the Doylestown branch. “So many of our teens are here in our fitness center training sports and we want to give them options that will help them take it to the next level.”
Brackett comes to the Y with a passion for helping athletes understand that success isn’t achieved overnight, but with the right foundation and great work ethic. He hopes to help give young athletes direction on their path to becoming well-rounded athletes and individuals. His classes will not just include physical training but other important aspects to being a good student athlete with workshops such as “How to talk to your coach” and “Media training” planned.
With his extensive background in sports and athletic development, Brackett has an understanding of all levels for professional and student athletes. His goal is to help athletes develop functional movement skills, build a foundation for function strength and enhance sport-specific knowledge and ability.
Athletic Development classes for ages 12-14 and 15-16 will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 4-5pm and 3-4pm respectively. The will include 15 minutes of movement and 45 minutes of strength. The program will also include a fitness evaluations and assessment. Programs for ages 17 and over are also available. One-on-one coaching will be offered with Brackett for sports specific training. Member and non-member rates will be available for all programs.
An informational meeting with Brett will be held on January 24, 2017 7pm.
