From preschoolers to adults, we specialize in all aspects of water safety and lifelong swim skills ranging from overcoming fear of water to upper level stroke development. Learning to swim at the Y is about more than just stroke development. It's a swimmer-centered approach, where students learn through play, hands-on exercises and creative repetition. Children are taught in small groups with swimmers at their skill level. When ready, swimmers can apply their skills to upper level programs like swim team, lap swimming for exercise, lifeguard training and Masters Swimming.

NEW! Swim Lesson Upgrade
We’ve updated our lessons to increase the accessibility and enjoyment of swimming to all ages and skill levels. Our goal is to help foster a sense of achievement as swimmers’ progress between levels, focusing first on basic water safety and then growing to introduce strokes and technique.
At the Y, we strive to create more confident swimmers who stick with lessons and develop a love for swimming that can last a lifetime. The NEW Y curriculum breaks swim instruction into 3 tiers: Swim Starters, Swim Basics and Swim Strokes. This ensures all students focus on the ‘Safety Around Water’ benchmark stills: ‘Swim, Float, Swim’ and ‘Jump, push (or swim), turn, grab’ and then continue on to become efficient and strong swimmers. YMCA aquatics offer private and semi-private lessons to allow students to work one-on-one with an instructor on their particular goals and needs. 1:12 ratio; Introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment, so to provide a positive family aquatic experience.
Perch - Water Exploration - Parent/Child Swim Classes (19 to 36 mths)
1:10 ratio; Focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.
Perch Plus- Water Acclimation- Parent/Child Swim Classes (2 1/2 to 5 yrs)
1:8 ratio; Equivalent to our turtle level, but just with a parent. Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with parent.

Pike - Preschool Swim - Water Acclimation (3 to 5 yrs)
1:5 ratio; Focuses on forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently; meant for beginner swimmers who are comfortable swimming 5 ft with reduced flotation.

Eel - Preschool Swim - Water Movement & Stamina (3 to 5 yrs)
1:6 ratio; Develops intermediate self-rescue skills, performed at longer distances; meant for swimmers who are able to swim 5 yards, tread water for 10 seconds and float on their back for 10 seconds with minimal flotation support.

Ray - Preschool Swim - Stroke Introduction (3 to 5 yrs)
1:6 ratio; Introduces basic stroke technique in freestyle and backstroke and reinforces water safety; meant for swimmers are able to swim 10 yards on front/back and can tread water for 30 seconds.

1:6 ratio; Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl/back crawl and reinforces water safety; meant for swimmers who are able to swim 15 yards front/back crawl and can tread water for 1 minute.
Minnow - Stroke Development (6 to 12 yrs)
1:7 ratio; Builds on endurance and introduces breaststroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety; meant for swimmers who are able to swim 15 yards front crawl with side breathing, 15 yards backstroke, 15 yards elementary backstroke, and 15 yards breaststroke and butterfly kick.
Flying Fish - Stroke Mechanics -- (6 to 12 yrs)
1:8 ratio; Refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and reviews resting strokes; meant for swimmers who are able to swim 25 yards freestyle, 25 yards backstroke, 25 yards elementary backstroke, 25 yards of breaststroke.

Stroke and Turn Mechanics (8 to 13 yrs)
1:10 ratio; Designed to help swimmers prepare for swim team; Learn stroke drills and techniques for effective turns for all 4 competitive strokes. Swimmers should successfully complete Flying Fish or demonstrate 50 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and 25 yards basic butterfly.
