That didn’t change when she became pregnant so she was happy when her obstetrician at Doylestown Women’s Health Center offered her a free three month membership to Central Bucks Family YMCA through the Stork Club program.

“I normally run, cycle, play sports. I know at some point in my pregnancy I’m not going to be able to do those things so I wanted to utilize the pool and take yoga classes at the Y since I can do that further into my pregnancy,” said Tinsley.

The Stork Club program is for patients at Doylestown Women’s Health Center before, during and after pregnancy and provides opportunities, advice and options for exercising. Patients are encouraged to maintain a healthy lifestyle by participating in approved activities such as yoga, cycling, barre or the Y’s many aquatics classes. The Y makes working out convenient for parents with free childcare for members, up to two hours per day. Since launching in 2017, nearly 100 women have taken part in the program.

“We’re proud to offer our patients the opportunity for self-care during this important time in their lives. Regular exercise is good for both mom and her baby as it can help reduce backaches, constipation, swelling and bloating. It is also helps improve your mood, increases energy and helps with better sleep,” said Jean O. Fitzgerald, MD of Doylestown Women’s Health Center.

The Stork Club program is already working for Tinsley, who says she’s been able to stave off the exhaustion that often comes with pregnancy by having a consistent fitness routine. “I do feel bad sometimes in the morning, but I’ve realized if I get out and do something active it makes me feel better,” said Tinsley. She’s hopeful working out at the Y through her pregnancy will pay off in the long run by helping her maintain strength and ultimately recover well from childbirth.
