Frequently Asked Questions

How many practices are there?

This will be our fourth year as a community-level boat. We will have four practices (either at New Hope or Core Creek Park) and then participate in the Bucks County Dragon Boat Festival on September 22 at Core Creek. Tentatively, the practices are scheduled for July and August Sunday afternoon with details to be determined. There will be one more practice on the race course in September.

What classes are included?

As part of the team you can in a specialized work-out available in the fitness center (for YMCA members only) or in the spin classes taught by Dragon Boat captain, Kathy Katits (for all team members). Contact Mary Madison for more details.

What if I can't make all the practices?

We encourage you to attend all practices, but realize that sometimes you will have other obligations.

Who is on the team?

The team will be made up of members from Doylestown, Warminster and Lower Bucks branches. We need 20 team members to fill the boat and always hope to have 22 on the roster for subs as needed. The coach will be the drummer during all races.

What is the fitness level and experience of the participants?

Dragon boat is great for everyone no matter what age or fitness level! The coach works with you to find the place in the boat that works the best for you. Some of the team will be returning for the third year. Other members will be brand new to the sport of Dragon Boat racing.

What does the $149 include?

Many teams cost more and don't include as much! Included in the $149 fee are the practices led by a professional coach, all equipment needed during practices and a team shirt. (Other team spirit wear is optional for an additional $15)
